We once worked with a student who copied 20 Chinese characters every day,
consistently, for several weeks. He was diligent, focused, and doing what everyone said he should. But despite all his effort, he still couldn’t remember how to write the characters. Every time a test came up, he froze.

Most people would assume he just wasn’t working hard enough. But in reality, his brain wasn’t being taught to understand how characters work.Copying helped his hand move, but not his mind.
Without knowing what the character parts meant or how they fit together, and without getting real-time feedback, his practice became repetitive guesswork. Worse, it actually reinforced mistakes and confusion.
